A literary historian, a comparatist, and a translator, she graduated from the Faculty of Romance Studies at the Jagiellonian University. She received a PhD in comparative literature from the University of Rochester, USA. A holder of the habilitation degree, she works for the department of comparative literature at the Faculty of Polish Studies of the Jagiellonian University. With her interests on the European theatre of the 16^th and the 17^th century, magical realism and the challenges of cultural syncretism, and the contemporary post-colonial literature, she has written Overt Theatricality and the Theatrum Mundi Metaphor in Spanish and English Drama, 1570-1640; (Universitas, Cracow, 1993); Przeczucia innego porządku. Mapa realizmu magicznego w literaturze światowej XX i XXI wieku (Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jagielońskiego, Cracow, 2009); Deportowani z życia. Nowe głosy w narracjach literackich i ich kolonialne konteksty (Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jagielońskiego, Cracow, 2017), and numerous articles and essays on the history of literature. She has supervised numerous BA and MA theses, including four on the writings of J. R. R. Tolkien.
