Translator of English-language literature, writer, scriptwriter, literary critic. Doctor of Philosophy, graduated from the English studies and philosophy at the University of Łódź. Lecturer at the Faculty of Philology at the University of Łódź (cultural studies) between 1987 and 2011. Author of several novels [such as Ziemia obiecana raz jeszcze (The Promised Land Once Again), 1993, Naród Zatracenia (The Nation of Perdition), 2014, graphic novel, illustrated by Mariusz Sołtysik], literary criticism books [such as Echa postmodernizmu (Echos of Postmodernism), 2010], movie scripts [such as Tam i z powrotem (There and Back Again), 2001, Sekcja 998 (Section 998), 2006] and over 70 translations of books from English (including H. Miller, J. Kerouac, C. McCarthy, J. Barth, J.L. Borges, A. Carter, J. Updike, J. Irving, M. Faber, R. Graves, R. Hughes, R. Flanagan and E. Catton). He co-operates with Odra, Literatura na świecie and other literary magazines. Originator and co-editor of literary series Twarze kontrkultury (The Faces of Counterculture, Oficyna publishing house). Member of the Polish Writers’ Association and the Polish Film Academy, honorary member of the Polish Literary Translators Association (STL). Judge of the Dublin IMPAC International Literary Award (2014). Chairman of the Zbigniew Batko English-language translation contest held within the Puls Literatury (Literature’s Pulse) festival. Member of the jury of the Lew Hieromina prize awarded since 2016 by STL to the translators-friendly publishers (2016-2018). Head of the jury of the Tuwim Award (2018). Winner of the Literatura na Świecie 2015 award in the "Prose"category. Awarded with, inter alia, Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis (2014) and medal for the “Merits to the City of Łódź” (2015). Currently, working on, amongst others, new translation of Ulysses by James Joyce.
