Madame Pylinska
and Chopin’s Secret

Monodrama by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt
20:00

Likeable like a blueberry shrub, Madame Pylińska espouses a peculiar method of playing the piano which involves lying under the instrument, making circles in water, listening to silence, and slow love-making... During the classes, facing successive surprises, young Éric learns something more than music – he learns life. It is a tender and humorous tale with snobbish cats, music-loving spiders, the beloved auntie, and – most of all – the music written by Chopin.

After the four-year tour with Mr Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran, which he interpreted on stage on his own for over 200 times in France, Canada, the US, Lebanon, and Italy, Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt is back in theatre. This autobiographical and humorous monologue presents some vivid characters and explores the works of Chopin, covering both the well-known compositions and the more obscure ones.

An intimate and educational narrative, or an initiation, it develops the concept of My Life with Mozart, which became a huge success. Great composers are more than the authors of classical music – they are also spiritual leaders who support us and show us the way...

The monodrama combines music and theatre. A pianist of international renown and a laureate of the International Chopin Piano Competition, Nicolas Stavy plays some compositions of the Polish-French genius.
